Purpose
Eclipse DMS and Eclipse Aura enable integration with your email host, allowing you to send emails using your existing business email address(es). This process typically relies on SMTP authentication. However, enhanced security measures implemented by email providers like Office 365 and Gmail can make it challenging for applications such as Eclipse to use SMTP for email transmission.
To address this, third-party services like SMTP2Go act as a relay, facilitating the connection between Eclipse and email hosts that may present difficulties when using SMTP.
Creating SMTP2Go account and Setup
As of May 2025, SMTP2Go provides various tiers based on the volume of emails you plan to send, including a free tier. To get started, follow the steps below to create an account and retrieve new SMTP server details for integration with Eclipse.
Steps
- Visit https://www.smtp2go.com/ and create an account. Sign-up with the work email domain you wish to use.
- Activate the SMTP2Go account (check your emails).
- Once activated, login into SMTP2Go. Navigate to Verified Senders, and add a sender domain.
- Enter the domain of your email address. For example, if your work email is johhsmith@mydealership.com.au, then enter mydealership.com.au.
- The next step will ask you to update your DNS records against your domain - including adding CNAME records. You will need to consult with your IT company that is managing your web domain, or login to the portal they provide to update yourself. (Your domain provider might be something like GoDaddy, or Crazydomains).
- Once you have updated your domain's DNS records, click verify and confirm details have been added correctly.
- Once DNS record updating and verification is complete, navigate to SMTP Users in SMTP2Go, then add a new SMTP user. The username should prepopulate with your domain name. Add a password and (optionally) set any email sending rate limit you desire.
Note the SMTP settings on the right - including server, port and TLS/SSL to use which each port. You'll need these details including the username/password to enter into Eclipse later.
Updating details in Eclipse
Once you have your SMTP2Go account and setup with your email hosting you can use the SMTP settings provided by SMTP2Go in Eclipse.
- Eclipse DMS: Navigate to Reports, then Eclipse Mail, then click Profile.
- Eclipse Aura: Navigate to Settings, then System Options, then Email Settings.
This will set the system wide email sending. Individual staff can set further email account profiles in the staff detail section.
